About Coach

Carissa has been a member of Anchored Athletics since 2019. After taking a few years away while teaching Physical Education/Fitness and Theory of Knowledge at St. John’s Academy in Shawnigan Lake, she’s back and genuinely happy to be part of the community again. She holds a diploma in Sports Science, a degree in Recreation and Health Education, and is currently working toward a Master’s in Philosophy of Science. She has also completed the HYROX Foundations course. Health and fitness have been a constant in Carissa’s life for over 25 years — she’s competed in multiple CrossFit competitions, run a marathon and several half marathons, and completed a triathlon along the way. Carissa found CrossFit about ten years ago, shortly after her second surgery following cancer. From that point on, training became less about numbers and more about being strong, resilient, and capable in everyday life. CrossFit has been the one thing that’s helped keep all of that together. Outside of the gym, Carissa is a mom of three kids who keep her busy and moving. Recently, she’s taken up mountain biking with her 8-year-old son and is enjoying it while she can still stay ahead — most days. Her favourite CrossFit movement is the clean and jerk, and her favourite post-workout treat is donuts. No favourites. All are welcome. Carissa is looking forward to training alongside the Anchored community and continuing to build strength, resilience, and connection — both inside and outside the gym.
